Balayage, or hair painting, originated in France in the 1970’s! Balayage means “to sweep” in French. Hair color or lightener is painted vertically on the hair with a brush. This method does not create a line along the hair as the color grows out. The results are soft, shimmering highlights that are as dramatic, or as subtle as the client wishes.
